Safety Equipment You Need
Before you start cutting with a saw, wear the above-mentioned safety equipment. A pair of eye protective glass will protect your eyes from getting hit by any objects coming out of the machine.
Though in most of the cases, you can proceed without hearing protection, placing it in place will reduce the annoyance made from the constant noise coming out of the saw.
When you pick gloves, pick one of the best quality. a pair of gloves can prevent the saw from cutting your fingers into pieces.
As you are well aware of the safety equipment now and can go for the next step, you should know the procedural tips to work safely with a saw.
1. Be Confident When You Work
Whenever you are making your mind to cut a thing using a saw, be confident about what you are doing. If in any position you are not feeling confident or hesitate to decide the proper way to make the cut, Stop there.
There are many ways of cutting a thing and proceeding without confident can make you vulnerable to accidents.
2. Do not place Your Hand in the Saw Line
Most of the injuries out of the saw occurs when people place their hand in the cutting line.
So, before starting a cut, imagine the way of the cut. On which way you are cutting and where will be your hand on the way. Don't proceed without thinking about the cutting line and the atmosphere.
3. Pick the Right Blade
This is a common mistake 90 percent of the amateur saw guy does. Cutting almost everything with the default cutting blade.
You can pick a general purpose saw blade for the simplest of works but there are other types also. A combination blade, 40 teeth or 80 teeth blade, these all serves different purposes and not going with the right blade increases the risk of kickbacks.
4. Take Precaution For Kickbacks
When you are using a table saw, kickback is the most dangerous thing that can happen to you. Though most of the modern table saws have protective teeth or a riving knife to hold the wood when it tries to kick back. But you should be cautious about your safety.
The best practice is not to stand on the line of kickback. Generally, the kickback happens on the opposite of the side you are holding.
Suppose, you are holding the wood in your right hand pressing it towards the saw by the left. If the wood kickback, it will kickback from the left-hand side as your holding pressure is on the right side of the wood.
In case you don't what kickback is, here is a video...
5. Use Gripper When Possible
When you are working on a table saw or a band saw, you can use a gripper to cut the wood or board.
Using the gripper certainly reduces the risk of cutting your hands by the saw. The sawing grippers have handles and straight grip for holding the object to be cut.
Some of the modern grippers have a flexible grip which allows you to make a precise cut holding the wood pallet with the gripper.
If the gripper is not available, you can buy a push stick or even can make one for you with the hand saw.
Don't push the wood towards the saw with bare hands, Never ever!
6. Organize The Small Working Particles
When working with any type of saws, it is mandatory to have an organizer for small particles. Not doing so can mess things up around the setup.
Small cut pieces randomly scattered on the floor increases the risk of making your legs injured. Stepping on those can be hazardous, I am sayin' it.
Before the closing words, I would recommend you to learn before you do anything.
Going without knowledge can cost you a lot, especially on the sawing tasks.
