Metal surfaces are one of the hardest to glue surfaces you can find on the earth. Without best metal glue, you’ll not be able to fasten metal to metal, or to other surfaces like metal to wood, plastic, and concrete.
Here are some of the effective ways to glue metal to other surfaces-
Can You Glue Metal to Other Surfaces?
Yes, you can attach metal to metal, metal to plastic, and metal to wood surfaces. But for doing so, you need to gather essentials and know how to do that effectively.
How to Glue Metal to Wood & Plastic?
Sometimes it may happen that you need to glue metal surface to wood or plastics. Although it seems impossible to adhere wood or plastic to such a slippery surface of metal, it is easy to glue metal to wood & plastic. Here's what you need to do-
For gluing metal to wood or plastic surfaces, you need to buy epoxy adhesives. Epoxy is the most effective way to glue metal surfaces to the others.
Supplies You Need
- Epoxy Adhesive
- Respirator
- Safety Goggles
Time to Complete: Estimated 24 Hours
Now, follow these steps carefully to glue metal to wood & plastic-
1. Clean both the Surfaces
Before you apply epoxy to fasten the surfaces, clean those carefully so that there remains no visible dust. Applying epoxy on the dusty surface will compromise the durability and effectiveness of the glue.
2. Allow Air to Pass
Epoxy is a combination of two chemicals and they react when you apply them. You may see fumes coming out of the surface after application. Inhaling the fume can cause respiratory illness and thus, we recommend applying metal glue in an open space or at least a well-ventilated room.
3. Apply the Epoxy
Now, apply the glue following the application procedure written on the epoxy pack or the user manual. Different products require a different application process. So, you need to see the glue pack for the exact process you need to follow for a perfect bond.
4. Curation Process
After application, you need to leave the glued materials to cure for around 14 to 24 hours. The curing time depends on the product you used. So, you need to check the product label for accurate timing. When curing, you must ensure that the glued surfaces do not move. Otherwise, the epoxy won’t stick.
How to Glue Metal to Concrete?
If you have not constructed the concrete block yet, you can easily fix the metal on it without additional adhesives.
However, fastening metal on an existing concrete block is not so easy. If you have the option to use cement on the concrete surface, it is best to break a portion of the concrete surface and fix the metal on it with cement.
If you can’t, follow the way we have recommended for gluing wood and plastic to the metal. But we don’t recommend following this as the bonding becomes weak over time. For durable bond and perfectly finished surface, try to work with cement.
